I have always wondered why I seldom get anything right on the first try.  The following poem explains it quite nicely.

                        My Clown (The Grand Goof)

When I was just a little boy I did nothing right the first time ... I knew not why.

When I was a teenager I seldom got anything right the first try ... I knew not why.

When I was a young adult I rarely achieved on the first attempt ... I knew not why I was so inept.

As I grew much older with the same perplexing inadequacy ... I began to wonder ... why me.

"Oh ... you have an alter ego" a kindred spirit cried ... "that you've ignored ... not recognized."

So I began an earnest search for my hidden second self ... I found him on a dusty shelf.

He now sits upon my shoulder as each day I come and go ... a charming, witty clown to know.

He scolds me when I'm tardy and fail to do things right ... "will I never see the light."

You see, my prickly confident is quick to take the credit ... when at last do I get it.

Oh ... I still don't always get it right the first time that I try ... I just no longer wonder at the reason why.   ... JH

The Wisdom of Antoine De Saint-Exupery's   The Little Prince

"Goodbye," said the little fox.  "And now here is my secret, a very simple secret.  It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

"It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important."

"Men have forgotten this truth," said the fox.  "But you must not forget it.  You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.  You are responsible for your rose."
